Digital Accounting Lab (DALab) is an Accounting Intelligence tool that facilitates the teaching and learning of Financial Accounting in a digital environment.
Available in Italian and English, DALab is a digital learning tool designed for instructors and students of:
- university courses in accounting, financial reporting, and quantitative business methods;
- upper secondary school courses in business administration and accounting;
- professional lifelong learning programs.
DALab is a plugin that can be integrated into the Moodle e-learning platform and can be downloaded free of charge by following the guides available on this page.
Thanks to an interface that faithfully reproduces the layout of the General Journal, General Ledger, and the summary statements of the Income Statement and the Statement of Financial Position, DALab reconstructs the entire accounting cycle within the Moodle environment. Starting from an initial or intermediate situation, the system allows users to record transactions during the period and end-of-period adjustments in order to determine the final balances of the Income Statement and the Statement of Financial Position. In addition, DALab also supports exercises on the reclassification of accounts according to the Italian statutory accounting formats.
On the one hand, the instructor, after uploading a customized chart of accounts, can create structured “practice exercises” or “exam tests” by entering the exercise texts along with their corresponding solutions. In addition, the instructor can freely customize the scoring system according to the type of error and determine the number of attempts allowed for completing exercises in “practice” mode.
On the other hand, the student, using a drop-down menu with dynamic search that updates as the first letters are typed, can easily select the accounts to be used in the various exercises and then enter the relevant amounts, the accounting sign (DEBIT/CREDIT), and the transaction date. Immediate feedback on the correctness of the accounting entries makes learning the logic of double-entry bookkeeping faster, more effective, and more engaging.
